William Maitland Ebden was born on 9 August 1923 in Dulwich, the son of Nancy Claire (Marshall) and William Sydenhan Ebden.  He married June Iris Merivale on 30 May 1952 in Kensington, London.  June was born on 9 November 1923 in Shaftesbury, Dorset.
