On the 25 August 1874 James Henry Man married Sarah Huntley. Sarah's father was George Maxwell Huntley whose sister Mary Anne Huntley married Thomas Hodgson on 07 July 1841. Thomas's father was John Hodgson and John's father was another John Hodgson who married Anne Appleby. Annes' aunt was Dorothy Dacre Appleby who married George Carlyle on 03 Sep 1751. George's brother John Carlyle emigrated to America and settled in Virginia. In 1748 he married Sarah Fairfax whose sister Anne married Laurence Washington the half brother of George Washington. In January 2006 Two Rivers Press reissued John Man's 'The Stranger in Reading', edited by Adam Sowan. We encourage members of the family to support Two Rivers by purchasing at least one copy of the book and making sure that John's literary legacy continues on today. Adam Sowan’s new annotated edition of this long-neglected text includes an introduction outlining the life of John Man, schoolteacher, bargemaster, bibliophile and historian. For further details please contact Two Rivers. The book can also be purchased through Amazon books. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
