Death announcement in The Times December 1852 of the
youngest child of James Matthews and Mary Anne Bailey |

Above John Matthews's marriage to Mary Garth on 22 March 1763 at
St Botolph without Aldgate. John and Mary were James Mathews's grandparents.
Below the marriage of Christopher Matthews and Elizabeth Teague at St Dunstan's,
Stepney, on 22 January 1793. Christopher was the son of John and Mary Matthews
(above) and father of James the banker.

The Garth Family:
|
On the
IGI the following group of children can be found. The parents are
William and Mary Garth. An examination of the microfilm
record of St Dunstan was undertaken in June of 2006 to establish the profession of William Garth.
What was hoped to be found was that William Garth was a butcher.
This would then make the subsequent marriage in 1763 of their
daughter Mary Garth to John Matthews whose trade
was butcher more likely. And indeed for one of William and Mary Garth’s children, William Garths’
occupation was given as ‘butcher’. This then pretty much
confirms this Garth family as that of Mary's who married John
Matthews. |
